Investing in a heat pump
The investment costs of a heat pump are higher compared to fossil-fuelled heating systems, but the maintenance and energy costs are significantly lower. This is why a heat pump also pays off financially in the medium and long term.
How a heat pump works
In principle, a heat pump works like a refrigerator. However, while a refrigerator extracts heat from its interior and releases it outside, a heat pump extracts heat from its surroundings and releases it into the living space. All it needs is energy of the air, earth or water and a small amount of electricity to drive it.
How much electricity a heat pump needs
Heat pumps get up to 80% of their energy free of charge from the environment. This means from the air, earth or water. The remaining approximately 20% comes from the power socket. Thus, heat pumps do require electricity, but they obtain the majority of their heating energy requirements from renewable energy sources.
